Notice of Institutional Requirements

All users of Graduate Center technology resources are bound by certain institutional and governmental requirements. These include the CUNY Computer Use Policy in all its current and future instantiations; additional CUNY and/or Graduate Center acceptable-use, security and related technology policies and procedures such as may currently exist or may be adopted and promulgated in the future; and federal, state and local legal requirements governing electronic documents and access, internet use and related technology-based activities . In all instances, the Graduate Center will take whatever action is necessary to safeguard the institution and to comply with duly authorized regulation. Users of GC technology resources are hereby notified of these provisions and are assumed to be familiar and in agreement with them.

Alumni

Graduate Center email accounts will automatically continue for new graduates for 12 months following the date of graduation.

An alumnus/a may contact Security to obtain an alumni ID card that will grant on-site access to the Mina Rees Library. An alumnus/a who also wants Mina Rees Library borrowing privileges may join the Library Associates at the “Member” level ($100 or higher). Membership is renewable annually. The Development and Alumni Relations Office will process contributions, send acknowledgment letters, contact donors to request renewals, and provide updates to the Mina Rees Library as needed. (The Ph.D. Alumni Association’s existing arrangement, in which borrowing privileges can be acquired through donations, will continue.)

Retired Staff

At an exit interview or at the time of retirement, staff members who are officially retiring may request through the Office of Human Resources to continue to use their Graduate Center email accounts. (Such requests must be made at the time of retirement because ordinarily an email account is closed when an employee exits the GC.) If a retiree’s email account is not accessed for a period of one year, the account will be closed.

At any time, a retired staff member may request from the Office of Human Resources a retiree ID that will grant on-site access to the Mina Rees Library as well as borrowing privileges.

Retired Faculty

Graduate Center-based: At an exit interview or at the time of retirement, GC-based faculty members who are officially retiring may request through the Office of Human Resources to continue to use their Graduate Center email accounts. (Such requests must be made at the time of retirement because ordinarily an email account is closed when an employee exits the GC.) If a retiree’s email account is not accessed for a period of one year, the account will be closed.

Campus-based: Academic programs may recommend emeritus status for retired doctoral faculty (Graduate Center or campus-based); such a recommendation must be approved by the Provost. Campus-based faculty members granted emeritus status may then request via the Office of the Provost to continue to use their Graduate Center email accounts. (Such requests must be made at the time of retirement because ordinarily an email account is closed when an employee exits the GC.) If a retiree’s email account is not accessed for a period of one year, the account will be closed.

At any time, a retired doctoral faculty member may request from the Office of Human Resources a retiree ID that will grant on-site access to the Mina Rees Library as well as borrowing privileges.

Requests made to the Office of the Provost at the time of retirement for access to GC computing resources beyond email will be considered on an individual basis for a specified purpose with a designated end date.

Library Associates

For non-alumni, any individual who joins the Library Associates at the “Sustainer” level ($250 or more) will receive on-site access to the Mina Rees Library for 12 months. Members at the “Benefactor” level ($1,000 or more) will also receive borrowing privileges for 12 months. The Development and Alumni Relations Office will process contributions, send acknowledgment letters, contact donors to request renewals, and provide updates to the Mina Rees Library as needed for members of Library Associates who are eligible for borrowing privileges.

Friends of the Graduate Center

Membership in the Friends of the Graduate Center at the “Sustainer” level ($250 or more) will bring with it on-site access to the Mina Rees Library for 12 months.
