Description

Dr. Allyson Friedman (Hunter): Title-TBA

Dr. Osceola Whitney (City): Molecular mechanisms of learned vocal communication
My overall research interest is to understand the molecular mechanisms of the brain, specifically within the basal ganglia and motor cortex, that establish, maintain, and limit neural and behavioral plasticity. I will review some of my recent work using behavioral, anatomical, and genomic techniques in birds with explicit vocal learning abilities, i.e., the zebra finch songbird and budgerigar parrot, and outline notable pathways for future work.
