Hester Eisenstein’s teaching and research focus on gender and globalization, women and work, and the sociology of gender. Her books include Feminism Seduced: How Global Elites Use Women’s Labor and Ideas to Exploit the World (2009), Inside Agitators: Australian Femocrats and the State (1996), Gender Shock: Practicing Feminism on Two Continents (1991), and Contemporary Feminist Thought (1983). Eisenstein has taught at Yale, Barnard, and SUNY Buffalo, and served as a femocrat in the state government of New South Wales, Australia. She is vice-chair of the Queens College chapter for the Professional Staff Congress, the faculty and staff union for CUNY.
