Theory and Educational Research: Toward Critical Social Explanation
This anthology of articles closes the divide between theory and research by showing how researchers can use critical social theory to devise and select instrumental research tactics, and can also expand the usefulness of data as a potential means of analysis. Topics covered include theorizing student poetry as resistance to school-based surveillance; low-income Latina parents and the issue of school choice, revisited in light of the work of Pierre Bourdieu; and queer theory and teen sexuality. Jean Anyon is a professor of social and educational policy in the urban education doctoral program at the Graduate Center, CUNY.
