From September 24 to October 27, the CUNY Graduate Center will present Anna Vivante: Vanitas in the Exhibition Hallway. Featuring 46 black and white photographs, Vanitas is an ongoing series of images which juxtapose human and animal skulls with living organisms and objects, whose intriguing formal affinities invite prolonged contemplation. Located on the first floor of the Graduate Center, 365 Fifth Avenue at 34th Street, the exhibition can be viewed Monday through Saturday, 12-6 pm.

The exhibition features 32 large-format, digital photographic portraits depicting intimate close-ups of the faces of unknown subjects. When measured over the course of a lifetime, the benefits of providing disadvantaged students, particularly women, with wider access to higher education are startling, according to a recently released study by sociologists at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY). The researchers found that over a 30-year period, surveyed women admitted to CUNY in the early 1970s ultimately achieved a 70% college graduation rate, earned an annual average of $7,525 more than they otherwise would have, and passed the benefits of their educational experience on to their children.
