The Library of Congress will mark its first major digital acquisition of September 11, 2001, materials with the addition to its collections of the September 11 Digital Archive (http://911digitalarchive.org). The September 11 Digital Archive is a joint project of the City University of New York Graduate Center’s American Social History Project and George Mason University’s Center for History and New Media – two institutions that have explored digital history for more than a decade. This year, for the first time, the Puerto Rican Travelling Theatre will present its acclaimed annual Festival of New Play Readings in association with the CUNY Graduate Center's Martin E. Segal Theatre Center. The free public readings will begin Tuesday, May 13th and then continue on Mondays and Tuesdays until ending on Monday, June 30th. Programs begin at 7 pm and will be presented in the Martin E. Segal Theatre at The Graduate Center, 365 Fifth Avenue at 34th Street. Seating, which is limited, is on a first-come, first-served basis. Robert Alford, an esteemed political sociologist, died Friday, February 14, in New York of pancreatic cancer. He lived in Manhattan, and also maintained a second home in Avery, California. Although 74 years old, the cancer caught him suddenly and unawares in the midst of his very active work as Distinguished Professor of Sociology at the CUNY Graduate Center. Read more
