    Attire donned by Renaissance nobility comes to life in “Splendors of the Renaissance: Princely Attire in Italy,” an exhibition opening at the Art Gallery of The Graduate Center on March 11. Featuring 15 spectacular reconstructions of courtly clothing from the late 15th to the early 17th century, each costume is displayed adjacent to a reproduction of the portrait in which it appears.   • Press Release: 3 Days/16 Companies = 1 Off-Broadway Prelude Weekend

    In a New York-first, the CUNY Graduate Center will offer a three-day Prelude Weekend featuring work being produced by the city’s distinctive off-Broadway theater community. On October 2, 3, and 4 The Graduate Center’s Martin E. Segal Theatre Center will join with the Alliance of Resident Theatres (A.R.T.)/New York to present 16 A.R.T. member companies, providing a compacted preview of diverse plays being developed for the 2003-04 season and beyond, and a unique forum for showcasing the extraordinary off-Broadway theater scene.

  • Press Release: Festival of Latino Play Readings Comes to CUNY Graduate Center

    This year, for the first time, the Puerto Rican Travelling Theatre will present its acclaimed annual Festival of New Play Readings in association with the CUNY Graduate Center's Martin E. Segal Theatre Center. The free public readings will begin Tuesday, May 13th and then continue on Mondays and Tuesdays until ending on Monday, June 30th. Programs begin at 7 pm and will be presented in the Martin E. Segal Theatre at The Graduate Center, 365 Fifth Avenue at 34th Street. Seating, which is limited, is on a first-come, first-served basis. After each play there will be a short discussion with a guest moderator. Read more

  • Press Release: "Souls of Black Folk: A Centennial Celebration" to Premiere at Graduate Center Stars Featured in Dramatic Readings of Du Bois's Classic Work

    Danny Glover, Phylicia Rashad, Jeffrey Wright, and Robin D. G. Kelley will be featured in a premiere performance of dramatic readings from W. E. B. Du Bois's The Souls of Black Folk at the CUNY Graduate Center on Monday, April 7, at 7:30 pm. Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the publication of Du Bois's great American classic, the program is being presented by The Graduate Center's Center for the Humanities as a benefit for the TransAfrica Forum. Tickets range from $25 to $100 and can be purchased by calling 212-817-8215. The Graduate Center is located at 365 Fifth Avenue at 34th Street. Read more
