In Memoriam: Herb Berman

Herb BermanHerb Berman, special assistant to the Graduate Center president, died July 6, 2014, after a long illness. Mr. Berman focused on government relations and brought a lifelong knowledge of New York City governance into the service of the Graduate Center. Before joining the GC in May 2007, he served as a city council member from Brooklyn for more than twenty-five years, becoming chairman of the Council Finance Committee. Following his political career he was appointed by Governor Pataki as president of the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation, which he led from 2003 to 2007. “Those of us who worked with Herb were inspired by his indefatigable energy, commitment to New York City institutions, and passion for the borough he called home,” said President Chase F. Robinson.
