Rethinking Disability: A Disability Studies Approach to Inclusive Practices
(McGraw-Hill, 2010)

A concise and practical guide to teaching inclusion in the classroom, this book aims to circulate the core ideas of Disability Studies to a wider audience, who can then use these ideas to support, maintain, and develop inclusive learning environments. Above all, the authors strive to show how Disability Studies in Education (DSE) is relevant to everyday classroom practice. Each of the ten chapters begins with an actual question that was posed by a novice teacher and ends with a series of the authors’ own questions designed to promote further discussion of the issues raised. The book is one of a series of brief guides full of practical advice that future teachers can refer to in both their student teaching and in their first years on the job, but the issues are also relevant to midcareer and veteran teachers. Jan Valle (Asst. Prof., City) and David Connor (Assoc. Prof., Hunter) are on the doctoral faculty in urban education.
