Language Examination: The Fall Language Examinations will be Thursday, October 10, 2013 and Tuesday December 3, 2013. The Spring Language Examinations will be Thursday, March 6, 2014 and Tuesday, April 29, 2014 beginning at 10 am. Students must sign up at least two weeks in advance. Ethnomusicology students and any student taking the examination in a language other than French or German must sign up at least a month in advance. Guidelines for language examination

First Examination in Ethnomusicology Part A:  Part A of the First Examination in Ethnomusicology will be given in the Fall on Monday, August 19, 2013 and in the Spring on Friday, January 17, 2013 10am-1pm. This exam is required of all students who entered the program without a master's degree in Ethnomusicology. Students who plan to take the exam should sign up for it six weeks before the exam date. First Examination - DMA Performance: The First Examination for all first-year students will be given April 4, 2014. Students must sign up for the exam by March 24, 2014 by e-mailing Jacqueline Martelle with a copy to Professor Norman Carey.

For students in the Theory, Musicology, and Composition programs, First Examinations will be scheduled individually.

Musicianship Exam for Theory Students: (Formerly Part C of the First Examination) will be given in the Fall on Saturday September 21, 2013 and in the Spring on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at 10am. Students will be assigned an exam time by Professor Straus. This examination is required of all theory/analysis students and must be taken if necessary each semester until it is passed. Professors Rothstein and Burstein will administer the exam.

The written examination in the Spring will be on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 21 and 22, 2014. The orals will be scheduled later. Students must sign up for the exam by December 2, 2013.
