Biology Students Win Shadle, Fulbright Fellowships

Miguel Pinto (Christian Miguel Pinto Baez), graduate student in the Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, and Behavior subprogram in Biology, was awarded the 2012 Shadle Fellowship from the American Society of Mammalogists. http://www.mammalsociety.org/2012-shadle-fellowship-christian-miguel-pinto-baez. The fellowship is awarded to “a graduate student in recognition of current accomplishments in Mammalogy and future potential.” Miguel already has a distinguished publishing record (13 papers) and is currently working on the evolution of the host-parasite relationship between bats and trypanosomes.

Doctoral student Susan Tsang was awarded a Fulbright fellowship to carry out research in Indonesia on the genetic diversity of the flying fox for the academic year 2012–2013 and into the summer. Tsang was also recently awarded a Lewis and Clark Fund in Exploration Grant from the American Philosophical Society.
