Areas of Expertise:
Laura Juszczak's area of expertise is biophysical chemistry; her tools are spectroscopic, primarily UV resonance Raman. This technique is used to selectively probe aromatic residues in proteins, primarily tryptophan but also tyrosine. Such studies reveal details about protein conformation in both the normal and diseased state. This information allows us to understand the molecular level detail of the disease process, and helps researchers to design effective drugs.
