Zdravko Blažekovic and Barbara Dobbs Mackenzie, eds.
Music’s Intellectual History
(Répertoire International de Littérature Musicale/RILM, 2009)
With sixty-six essays, this volume offers insight into the history of music scholarship from the Renaissance through the twentieth century. The contributions address the directions music scholarship has taken in the past, discuss current scholarly habits based on precedent, and suggest paths for further study. The articles—begun as papers presented at RILM’s first conference—are grouped under sections such as profiles of key scholars and composers, historiography, methodology, and periodicals. Zdravko Blažekovic (Adjunct Asst. Prof., GC, Music) serves the GC’s Barry S. Brook Center for Music Research and Documentation as director of Research Center for Music Iconography (RCMI) and executive editor of RILM; Barbara Dobbs Mackenzie (Adjunct Asst Prof., GC, Music) serves as director of the Barry S. Brook Center.
