In addition to the application form (see Admissions’ web page), applicants must submit a statement of purpose, a CV, a writing sample, GRE scores, all prior academic transcripts, and two letters of recommendation. The deadline for submission is January 15. Students can expect to hear about the status of their application by the second week of March.
Please visit the Office of Admissions’ web site to apply and for detailed description of the application process.
The statement of purpose should give a reasoned account of the academic achievements and interests of the candidate to date and his/her intellectual plans for the future within the field of Hispanic or Luso-Brazilian studies. An awareness of the specific research strengths of the Faculty of the Graduate Center would also be welcome.
The writing sample (which should have between 4000 and 7000 words) should be a piece of scholarly prose in some branch of the field of Hispanic or Luso-Brazilian studies. It should not be journalistic in nature or works of fiction.
