The Ph.D. Program in Physics provides students with opportunities to pursue original research on the frontiers of physics and requisite training in the fundamentals of physics. Students may choose a research specialization from the principal areas of modern theoretical and experimental physics. The Physics program features specialized research partnerships with some of the most significant research centers in and around New York City, including Lucent Technologies, IBM and The Brookhaven National Laboratory.
RESEARCH AREAS:
Astrophysics; atomic and molecular physics; biophysics; elementary particle, high-energy physics and string theory; geophysics and fluid dynamics; materials science; nuclear magnetic resonance; nuclear physics; solid state, condensed matter and low temperature physics; photonics; relativity; thin film superconductor physics; theoretical plasma physics; quantum information; quantum optics; theoretical chemical physics; mathematical, computational and statistical physics.
