The Psychological Center
The Psychological Center (The Clinic) is the training clinic for the CUNY Doctoral Subprogram in Clinical Psychology located at the City College of New York, established on February 17, 1966 to serve the practicum training needs for the doctoral program.
The Clinic’s mission is to provide high quality psychological services to students from City College and other CUNY campuses, as well as surrounding communities. Another of its missions is to provide relevant training opportunities for students in the Doctoral Subprogram Clinical Psychology (the Program). The Clinic shares a commitment with the Program to provide services to underserved, poor and disenfranchised populations from the New York Metropolitan area, and provides individual and therapy, and psychological testing for adults, adolescents and children, as well as couple and family consultations.
The Clinic is located on the 8th floor the North Academic Center on The City College campus, one block east of the 137th Street station on the Broadway IRT (Number 1) subway line. The Center consists of offices and seminar rooms, working space for clinical faculty, students, administrative and affiliated research personnel, therapy and testing rooms, student offices, and a small library of specialized titles and frequently used psychology manuals and journals.
The Center is headed by the Director, Dr. Diana Puñales Morejon, who works closely with Associate Director Dr. Benjamin Harris. It is staffed by the graduate clinical students in residence (approximately 60 students divided among four classes) who devote eight to ten hours per week to practicum training. Incoming students at the start of their graduate training are assigned clinic responsibilities commensurate with their knowledge and experience. Supervision of psychological services is provided by the clinical faculty, and externally based licensed clinical supervisors.
