Sonia K. González, DPH student in the Community, Society, and Health track (2009 cohort), received the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Fellowship from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) for her HIV prevention app research on evaluating knowledge and connection to clinical services via GPS on smartphones.
Michelle Glaser, DPH student in the Epidemiology track (2011 cohort) will receive $10,000 in funding from the Center for Injury Epidemiology and Prevention at Columbia toward her one-year pilot project, “Incidence and risk factors for injuries among firefighters at the Fire Department of New York (FDNY).”
Taeko Frost, DPH student in the Health Policy and Management track (2011 cohort), a member of the Community Advisory Board of Community Healthcare Network, was named executive director as of January 2013 of Washington Heights CORNER Project, northern Manhattan’s only harm reduction–specific social service agency. She has been serving as program director since 2009, overseeing the development of onsite medical and primary care services, case management, quality assurance, and evaluation.
Helen Cole, DPH student in the Community, Society, and Health track (2010 cohort), presented a poster, “Measuring chronic disease outcomes for older black men in New York City: Prevalence estimates from a true community-based sample,” in mid-December at the 2012 NIH Summit on Health Disparities. She also copresented three other posters with her colleagues at the summit.
Sungwoo Lim, DPH student in the Epidemiology track (2010 cohort), recently published “Assessing the causal effect of Section 8 housing vouchers as the active ingredient for decreasing homelessness in veterans with mental illness,” in Health Services and Outcomes Research Methodology, 2012.
