SPCH80900 - Seminar in Speech Science: Neurophysiology of Auditory Processing
80900 - Seminar in Speech Science: Neurophysiolgy of Auditory Processing - 3 Credits
COURSE OFFERING: Fall 2014
Day/Time: Thursday 4:15 - 6:15pm
Instructor: Dr. Valerie Shafer
Phone: (212) 817-8805
This course will examine theoretical positions and empirical data addressing the neural mechanisms that underlie auditory and speech processing. Neural models of auditory encoding, discrimination, prediction and scene analysis will be compared. The debate focusing on similarity/differences in processing speech versus non-speech will be addressed. Neural measures used to tests these models will be examined and data from studies of typical and disordered populations will be used to critically evaluate the models.
