Course description:
This course will cover auditory sensation and perception. The exact topics will depend on the interests of the students. Topics covered may include: psychophysical methods, loudness, pitch perception, frequency selectivity, masking and the critical band, psychophysical estimates of cochlear compression; temporal processing in the auditory system, space perception and auditory pattern and object perception. It will also include practical applications. The major emphasis will be on normal hearing individuals, but research with hearing impaired listeners (and those with cochlear implants) will also be covered.
