FEDERICA RAIA is Associate Professor in both the Earth and Atmospheric Science and the Secondary Education Departments at City College of New York and, in the Urban Education Program at CUNY Graduate Center.
Her research in science education is devoted to

developing a theoretical framework for studying and analyzing how we approach complex dynamic systems including social–cultural systems;

understanding the type of explanations and explanatory mechanisms we accept in studying natural and social systems.
In this context she utilizes sociocultural methodologies, to study the complex interactions between doctor and patient and; d) and studying how a complex dynamic systems framework could support the understanding of how construction of meaning emerge in context and by the complex interactions of a person with:

the natural world he/she studies,

with students and teachers in a classroom context of learning.
