Fitness Classes

The Graduate Center offers fitness classes facilitated by the Student Affairs office and the Doctoral Students’ Council. Classes include Pilates, Hatha Yoga, and Intermediate Yoga. Classes are free for students, but registration is required before the first class for all classes, see schedule below.

Please register early to ensure your space, first come, first served.  Please indicate your choices in order of preference 1-5. For example, Pilates A (1), Hatha Yoga (2), etc.  NOTE: You do not need to check each class, only the ones you are interested in taking. When a class is full, students may opt to go on a waiting list. Students who miss more than two classes will have their registration terminated. Fitness equipment is provided.

Faculty, Staff and Community Members should register at the Student Affairs office, room 7301. Payment is required at time of registration for Faculty, Staff and Community Members and a $10 registration fee is applicable each semester. Questions? Contact studentaffairs@gc.cuny.edu

Pilates
Pilates improves core strength and balances the muscles around the joints, improving the way your body functions, looks and feels.

Hatha Yoga
Bodily Postures (asanas), deep relaxation, breath control (pranayama), and mental concentration create a supple and relaxed body, increase vitality and promote radiant health.

Intermediate Yoga (Mindful Vinyasa Yoga – Intermediate)
This class is for students who are already familiar with basic yoga poses and sun salutations. We will continue to explore the mental and physical benefits of moving mindfully and will apply basic alignment principles to a wider variety of poses, including inversions.  Pranayama (breathing exercises) or sitting meditation will be integrated into every class. Come deepen your understanding of yoga and yourself!

Baruch College Athletics and Recreation Complex (ARC)

By special arrangement with Baruch College, enrolled Graduate Center students have been allowed to become members of the Baruch College Athletics and Recreation Complex (ARC), and it is anticipated that this arrangement will continue. Under the current provisions, Graduate Center students need to obtain from the GC Registrar’s office a certification of enrollment to present to the ARC Facilities Director and complete paperwork at Baruch along with payment of $100 for the year. Information about the ARC facilities can be found at their website. Graduate Center students are also welcome to use the John Jay College Cardiovascular Fitness Center (899 Tenth Avenue, Suite 601) for a $275 annual fee (half-year membership is available for $137.50). For John Jay, students must first have a physical examination ($25 on-site exams are available twice a year). John Jay College Cardiovascular Fitness Center

Graduate Center students are also welcome to use the John Jay College Cardiovascular Fitness Center (899 Tenth Avenue, Suite 601). Half-year membership is $137.50. For John Jay, student must first have a physical examination. ($25 on-site exams are available twice a year.)
