Description

The Foundation for Iberian Music commissions a new work each year from a composer whose work reflects our foundation's mission. The 2014 commission is awarded to Javier Arias Bal, who will be composing for avant-garde Spanish flutist Julian Elvira.

About the composer and performer:
Arias teaches music and composition at the Universidad Internacional de la Rioja, a founding member of the contemporary music group Música Presente, and co-producer of the recent documentary on Tanzanian music, Africa: The Beat.

Elvira performs on a modified flute of his own invention, called the Pronomos Flute. This flute allows the player access to a much greater array of extended techniques. Elvira is first flute for the Symphonic Band of Madrid and he maintains an active solo career, focused in performing new music.

The multi-media concert will feature a full program of works for the Pronomos flute with backing video projections. Please join us and the composer for an exciting evening of new music.
