Associate Provost and Dean for Academic Affairs Linda N. Edwards has been appointed Acting Provost at The Graduate Center.
Edwards received her Ph.D. in Economics from Columbia University in 1971. From 1971 to 1999 she served as a member of the Economics faculty at Queens College, and in 1978 she joined the faculty of the Ph.D. Program in Economics at The Graduate Center, where she remains a faculty member. Edwards served as Executive Officer of the program from 1995 to 1998. Her most recent research has focused on topics in labor economics, including public sector unions, women and equal employment opportunity in Japan, and home-based workers in the United States. In September 1998, she was appointed Acting Associate Provost and Dean for Academic Affairs, and has served as Associate Provost since 1999.
She has published more than 25 articles, book reviews, and other contributions to professional journals including the Journal of the Japanese and International Economies, Journal of Labor Economics, Monthly Labor Review, Industrial Labor Relations Review, American Economic Review, and Journal of Political Economy. Edwards has also participated in professional activities such as serving as a reviewing member of the Department of Economics at the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College; serving as a member of a New York State Office of College and University Evaluation accreditation team evaluating the Ph.D. Program in Economics at CERGE-EI in Prague, the Czech Republic; serving as a member of the Committee on Substantive Change for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; and serving as an advisory board member for The City of New York Independent Budget Office.
