Installed in the Graduate Center's Exhibition Hallway, this show features expressive portraits by the noted Venetian painter and master etcher Domenico Tiepolo (1727-1804), including 24 of the 60 prints forming the Raccolta di Teste (Collection of Heads) plus one related drawing. Depicting bearded patriarchs, the portraits were created as a tribute to the artist's father, internationally renowned painter Giambattista Tiepolo (1696-1770), and feature visages from the elder Tiepolo's works. The resulting father-son legacy and homage to old age offers an intimate encounter with the two artists as well as a distinguished example of graphic art that is rarely featured as an exhibition on its own. The show will be accompanied by an illustrated brochure with an essay by guest curator Marilyn Symmes. Free. |
