Recognizing that the pursuit of knowledge often crosses traditional departmental boundaries, the Graduate Center encourages interdisciplinary study. Once you are enrolled in any of the doctoral programs, you may investigate interdisciplinary doctoral studies through interdisciplinary certificate programs or interdisciplinary concentrations.

Interdisciplinary Certificate Programs
Once you are enrolled and fulfilling the requirements of one of the existing doctoral programs, you may earn a certificate in any of the following six Certificate Programs. The certificate will be awarded at the same time as the doctoral degree.

Interdisciplinary Concentrations
Interdisciplinary curricula and concentrations or specializations have been developed in the eleven areas listed below. Once you are enrolled and fulfilling the requirements of one of the existing doctoral programs, you may fashion a specialization with the guidance of the Interdisciplinary Studies Committee and under the supervision of specialists within these areas.
