Campus Specific Information
- Directs the paid summer internship program.
- Meets regularly with employers to stay abreast of changes in the journalism profession, to forge new job and internship connections and to maintain existing ones at online media, broadcast organizations, newspapers and magazines.
- Manages the provision of online resources for students and alumni, including internship and job listings, recruiter contact information, lists of news organizations that accept students' freelance work, and lists of Web links to online job postings and other information.
- Attends school strategy meetings and advises the deans, faculty members and other administrators on formulation of School policy and curricular enhancements to improve the readiness and marketability of its students.
- Works with the Office of Admissions to devise recruitment and marketing campaigns that promote career outcomes of alumni.
- Serves on the Dean's executive committee.
General Duties
- Directs the career services function for a College or Unit.
- Establish goals and objectives and develop strategic and operational plans for providing career services; assesses and reports outcomes to management and the overall College community
- Directs overall operations of physical and virtual career centers, including staff, facilities, and technologies
- Plan and implement marketing strategies for identifying and cultivating a diverse group of potential employers
- Plans, promotes, and markets services and information to students, including information resources, career counseling, informational programs, and assessment programs
- Hires, trains, and manages full- and part-time staff as well as student interns
- Collaborate with other academic and administrative units to promote the goals of the career office.


Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and eight years' related experience required

Other Qualifications
- At least 7 years' experience as a working journalist.
- Teaching and/or advisement experience with students and/or interns, preferably at the graduate level.
- Direct knowledge of and contacts within the journalism profession.
- Highly developed research skills and knowledge of journalism hiring and salary trends.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to develop and direct journalism career-related activities, including planning and conducting career events and workshops.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, alumni and recruiters.
- Experience supervising staff.
