Campus Specific Information

Reports to the Dean of Macaulay Honors College and the University Director of Academic Technology. The Academic Applications Director provides strategic direction and leadership in the development of the university's academic technology capacities, helping position the university to have a national and international influence as a leader in applications of digital media for content delivery, teaching, and learning in higher education. Is primary liaison to the program and professional staff at the campuses that will be involved in the CUNY Advance projects. 

- Facilitates the process of prototyping and creating instructional media projects from inception to finished product, university-wide.
- Develops design review system for proposed projects.
- Manages review process to select, develop, and assess pilot programs.
- Develops reporting structure for faculty and staff implementing campus programs.
- Provides managerial oversight of campus programs and personnel.
- Serve as project manager; manages project budget.
- Provides cross-campus leadership on technology initiatives and cross-campus communication and cooperation on projects.
- Sits on the CUNY Committee on Academic Technology and other relevant committees.
- Networks with other information technology and academic technology service providers throughout the University and beyond to advocate needs, obtain resources, and identify collaborative opportunities with other CUNY programs.
- Investigates and implements new tools and resources for instruction, and creating and supporting an infrastructure that allows use of the tools in teaching and learning. Guides technology implementation with an eye toward maximum usefulness and cost-effectiveness within the context of the CUNY's curricular and educational goals
- May manage support staff.

General Duties
- Leads College/Unit in efforts to foster, facilitate and support the use of technologies for teaching and learning.
- Leads efforts to support academic departments in high-level instructional technology planning and evaluation of new technologies
- Identifies and communicates best practices for applying instructional technologies to curriculum design and teaching techniques
- Assists faculty in designing and developing applications that address various learning styles
- Identifies training needs in the area of instructional technology, designing and delivering appropriate educational plans for faculty and staff
- Provides professional development opportunities for faculty and staff in understanding and applying instructional technologies
- Provides input to University-wide instructional technology initiatives
- Manages a staff of technology professionals
- Performs related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and eight years' relevant experience required.

Other Qualifications
Ph.D. or other terminal degree preferred. Expertise in digital media development and curriculum development. Proficiency in open source content management tools and learning management systems. Ability to serve as liaison to college presidents as well as program administrators. Broad knowledge of trends in scholarship of teaching and learning, instructional technology, and digital humanities.
