College Assistant

Under the direction of the Executive Officer and the Assistant Program Officer, the Ph.D. Program in Computer Science is seeking the part-time assistance of a College Assistant who will assist with daily operations of the office.  Duties for the college assistant will include, but are not limited to:
-Answering and routing telephone and in-person inquires;
-Organizing meetings and events (e.g., designing and distributing fliers for events, publicizing meetings & events, staffing information sessions for prospective students, setting up conference calls, scheduling rooms & equipment, ordering food);
-Maintaining files; typing; interoffice delivery of various documentation;
-Maintaining communication with other affiliated CUNY campuses;
-Processing payment requests;
-Collecting data for generating reports;
In addition to the above basic duties, the College Assistant is also responsible for
-Research on marketing strategies and channels for the Computer Science PhD program
-Reach out to potential candidates of the program
-Maintain connections with program alums
-Answer prospective students’ questions about the program
-Maintain the program website
-Create department newsletter
-Facilitate with fund raising for the department
-Help graduating students with job searching needs for internships or long term jobs.
-Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:
-High school diploma
Preferred Qualifications:
-BS/BA diploma preferred
-Candidates with marketing and media background are particularly welcome.
-Previous professional office experience, preferably in an academic (particularly CUNY) or non-profit environment;
-Knowledge of Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.
-Must be flexible to perform a variety of tasks; be able to take initiatives;
-Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills;
-Ability to exercise discretion in handling sensitive and/or confidential matters on behalf of the Program;
-Ability to demonstrate professionalism and reliability; and
-Highly organized with great attention to detail

Salary Range

$17.34 per hour


20 hours per week
