How We'll Celebrate the Class of 2020
May 14, 2020
Dear 2020 Graduate,
Thank you to all of you who shared with us your preferences for alternate 2020 graduation celebrations. In light of the chancellor's news that CUNY commencements are postponed, we want to honor the end of this year in a way that is in keeping with your wishes.
The survey results indicated that while some of you appreciated the sentiment of a virtual ceremony, by and large you’d rather wait for an in-person commencement ceremony with your friends and family in attendance.
We understand, and, still, we want to honor you this year while we plan for an in-person commencement in 2021. To that end, we will be celebrating you with video tributes. We will also send each of you copies of a printed commemorative program, listing the entire Class of 2020.
For one of the videos, we need your help. We would like to show the moments that meant the most to you on your graduate school journey. We invite you to share your photos and memories using this link. Alternately, you can reply to this email with a photo attached and brief description. These may be photos of you and your dissertation committee, you with your printed dissertation or thesis, you teaching at the campuses, at conferences, working in the lab or the library or the field, and many more signature moments. We would like to have all submissions by Friday, May 22.
We are delighted that many of you have had or will have the chance join Zoom graduation celebrations organized by your respective doctoral and master’s programs.
We will hold an in-person commencement for the Class of 2020 next year and will share with you the details of that as soon as we can.
Thank you and, again, congratulations!
