Information Technology (IT) is the division of the Graduate Center responsible for voice, video, and data systems and services. The mission of this unit is to promote, facilitate, and support the effective use of technology in the learning process, in instruction and research, and in processing and accessing institutional information.

Reporting to the Web Services Manager, the Web Programmer designs, codes, and tests complex web pages and web-based applications created within the Kentico CMS (Content Management System) environment for the GC website. The Web Programmer is responsible for keeping abreast of emerging web trends and has full technical knowledge of all phases of web development and programming. S/he will also be required to stay abreast of new web technologies and practices, determining the best way to utilize those to the Graduate Center's benefit.

Duties include:
- Involved in all aspects of a project life-cycle: analysis, design, development, and testing.
- Researches, recommends, and develops new tools, techniques, and programming solutions to improve application design, efficiency, and performance.
- Provides expert technical direction to the web project team by contributing to technical proposals, technical specifications, and design documents.
- May be responsible for multiple phases of a project.
- Assists with certain aspects of CMS architecture, development, management, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Partners with Administrative Departments, Programs, and Centers & Institutes to collaboratively develop and maintain microsites and web pages.
- Promotes content standards and consistency across the GC website.
- Updates job knowledge by tracking emerging Internet technologies; participates in professional development opportunities.
- Performs additional related duties as assigned.

General Duties
I.T. Associates perform moderately complex professional work in technology-related disciplines.  While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Associates work in areas such as development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report.  Work tasks include resolving complex technology problems and serving as a technical resource.   They have considerable latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may have supervisory responsibilities. 
    
I.T. Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
    
2. An equivalent of seven years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: seven years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus five years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus three years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position
   
3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency
    
4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
   
This job has three levels.  To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.

Other Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include:
- BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent
- 2+ years enterprise web development in .NET (preferably C#), PHP
- Strong XML, HTML, CSS and Javascript skills
- Experience with Kentico CMS; Wordpress
- Experience working with relational databases (such as MS SQL & MySQL) ranging from design principles, rules, and techniques to accessing database content using SQL queries, stored procedures, and views
- Experience working with a shared code repository (GIT) along with other team members
- Solid communication skills to translate complicated technical language into lay person terms
- Ability to prioritize given tasks and meet deadlines
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed
