With dramatic increases in the adoption of smartphones, messaging, and social-media use among middle-school students, cyberbullying is an emerging concern.  However, relatively little is known about the contents and the contexts of cyberbullying.  In this talk, Prof. Paik will discuss preliminary results examining communic

Data were drawn from 58 “seed” Android smartphones, which resulted in the collection of approximately 68 thousand SMS messages during a five-month period. Prof. Paik will present results identifying clusters of topics and sentiments in this SMS network. He will also discuss lessons learned from conducting a computational study with a young population of smartphone users.
