Description

This workshop will focus on what a digital academic identity is, and why and how you might intentionally cultivate one that best reflects your research, teaching, scholarship, and other work. We will discuss what kind of content might be appropriate, as well as take a hands-on approach to exploring specific tools and platforms to help you organize and share your content on the Internet. Specifically, we will familiarize ourselves with the basic affordances of WordPress, a web-based software used for digital publishing and website-building, and two web-hosting platforms, the CUNY Academic Commons and Reclaim Hosting. We recommend that participants come prepared with a bio, a CV, a headshot, and/or (sample) blogs; having content to work with will enhance your exploration of the tools and platforms. If you are not already a member of the CUNY Academic Commons, we recommend that you sign up beforehand at www.commons.gc.cuny.edu.
