Description

In this talk Una Chung (Sarah Lawrence College) explores the potential intersections of Eastern philosophy and cultural studies in the context of contemporary digital media. Beyond critiques of orientalism, she considers whether there are ways of articulating non-western practices of the self that meet the demands of neoliberalism and yet offer secret alternatives. Building on the work of postcolonial feminist and queer scholars on affect, Chung examines the experiences and practices of life and survival in the “cyber age.” In doing so she thinks through what it would mean to develop a notion of praxis in relation to the kinds of reflexivity inherent in cybernetics.
