Fidaa Zaidan & Amir Nizar Zuabi (Palestine)
Join us for an update on the situation for theatre artists in Palestine.
Fidaa Zaidan was born in Jalilie Palestine, in the village of Beit Jann. She holds a B.A in Social Theatre from Haifa University, and a Master of Fine Arts – Creative Acting from Tel-Aviv University. She has performed in plays throughout Palestine and abroad, her work includes: working with Palestinian Director Amir Nizar Zuabi, since 2015, in sever- al plays including: West of Us the Sea, The Lanterns of the King of Galilee, and Against a Hard Surface (a co-production with Ya-Samer Dance Theater), The Stone is our Sign, Directed by Di Travis (produced by the Freedom theatre), 2013 Men in the Sun, by Ghas- san Kanafani with Saeed Salama (Pantomime Theatre), Currently, Fidaa is performing her monodrama Last Day of Spring, which she wrote, directed by Siwar Awad, supported by A.M. Qattan Foundation and which was recently presented at the Kampala International Theatre Festival.
Amir Nizar Zuabi is an award- winning theatre writer and director and is the Artistic Director of ShiberHur theatre company. He is also an Artistic Associate of the Palestinian National Theatre, was an associate director of Young Vic London (2009—17) as well as a member of the United Theatres Europe for artistic achievement, and an alumnus of the Sundance theatre program. Writing and directing credits include I am Yusuf and This is My Brother, In the Penal Colony, Alive From Palestine, Oh My Sweet Land, The Beloved (co-produced by ShiberHur/Young Vic) Three days of Grief, West of Us the Sea, Mid Spring Musical, Dry Mud, Against A Hard Surface (ShiberHur) Last Ward and Who Killed You Asmahan. Directing credits include Samson and Delilah (Flanders Opera, Antwerp) Jidarriya by Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish (Edinburgh International Festival, Bouffes du Nord and world tour), Forget Herostratus, Le Malade Imaginaire, War or More and Comedy of Errors (Royal Shakespeare Company). In 2017 he directed Oh My Sweet Land, in a project with the PlayCo in kitchens across New York. Grey Rock is his first play for Remote Theater Project. He is currently writing new plays for the Riksteatern in Stockholm and for the National Theatre, London.

The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center is proud to announce the fourth weekly line-up of its new global series, SEGAL TALKS. New York, US, and international theatre artists, curators, researchers and academics will talk daily for one hour with Segal Center’s director, Frank Hentschker, about life and art in the Time of Corona and speak about challenges, sorrows, and hopes for the new Weltzustand— the State of the World. The Segal Center is the only theatre institution in New York City and the US creating original programming every day during the week.
