Ph.D. Program in Theatre and Performance

Even though the road to your Ph.D. in Theatre from coursework to dissertation defense can seem daunting, the program has set certain milestones which can help students focus on short-term goals toward achieving their degree. This two-part session will start off with a discussion directed toward Level 1 students: different program milestones, including a focus on the program language exam requirements, and chart the overall trajectory of the program. The second hour (5:15-6:15 pm) will present a formal breakdown of the written and oral sections of the first and second exams, guidelines for developing, crafting, and defending a dissertation proposal, and insight from professors about how to manage the work of writing a dissertation. Whether you are in the beginning, middle, or end of the program, this event aims to help you successfully navigate your path from Level I to graduation. Esther Neff hosts, with Profs. Jean Graham-Jones and David Savran

NOTE:  Unless otherwise announced, all Theatre Professionalization Series events will begin at 4:15 p.m. in the Green Room. Please bear in mind that the Green Room has limited occupancy. If an event is held via Zoom, students will receive an emailed invitation with the Zoom address approximately one week before the scheduled event. In order to accommodate all of the students in the Program, virtual professionalization events will be recorded and attendance indicates a student’s permission to be recorded.
