Throughout the 2013-2014 academic year, the Graduate Center presents a public programs initiative, Cultural Capital: The Promise and Price of New York’s Creative Economy, produced by Graduate Center Public Programs in collaboration with the Advanced Research Collaborative (ARC).
For more than a century, New York City has played a central role in the world’s creative and knowledge-based industries—publishing, journalism, film, fashion, theater, new media, music, and more. Recent evolutions in technology and our uncertain economic climate call for a comprehensive exploration of these industries and the challenges they face. Throughout the year, Cultural Capital programs will examine the benefits that accrue to the city from the creative economy, as well as the attendant complications and debates. The Graduate Center will explore these issues through an array of public conversations, panels, screenings, and performances featuring prominent artists, journalists, cultural leaders, and scholars.
Presented in partnership with New York magazine.
