Fulbright Scholar in Tunisia, Andrea Khalil, Continues Work in North Africa

As a Fulbright Scholar in Tunisia 2012-13, Andrea Khalil will continue her ongoing research project on political crowds in North Africa. The project investigates how political crowds have a positive impact on social progress, countering prevailing theories about mob psychology and its relation to religious fanaticism. The research draws on North African literary texts about crowds but also her long-term interviewing of crowd participants in North Africa and substantial analysis of visual materials in the productivity of political crowds in the region. The research focuses on Tunisia, Algeria, and Libya within a regional context of the Arab Middle East.
