La carreta: Edición anotada de René Marqués
(Editorial Plaza Mayor, 2013)
This annotated edition of René Marqués’s La carreta (1951–52), the Puerto Rican classic on migration, presents an in-depth analysis of the play as well as the historical, economical, and political context of its production. Special attention is given to the evolution of the text in its multiple editions, to its more than eight hundred presentations, and to the fact that it spurred the creation of the Puerto Rican Travelling Theatre, the first Hispanic theatre in the United States. This new edition is intended for teachers, students, and scholars interested in this period of Puerto Rico’s literary history. In Spanish. Marithelma Costa (Prof., Hunter) serves on the doctoral faculty in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian literatures and languages.
