Psychology EO Awarded 2014 Margaret Floy Washburn Award

Maureen O’ConnorThe New York State Psychological Association’s Division of Women’s Issues has awarded Maureen O’Connor, executive officer of the Ph.D. Program in Psychology, the 2014 Margaret Floy Washburn Award. She will receive the award at the Division of Women’s Issues’ conference on leadership in September 2014.

O’Connor (Prof., John Jay, Criminal Justice, Liberal Studies, Psychology) was nominated for the association’s most prestigious award by her students for her significant contributions in one or more areas of feminist concerns. Her students cited O’Connor’s role not only as a teacher and researcher, but as a mentor to many students and junior staff who is especially cognizant of women’s issues in academia. The students felt her commitment and dedication is especially apparent in how she acts as a role model and supports working mothers and graduate students with family commitments. She sets an example through her own life and creates structures that allow competing demands to be managed with dignity and grace.
