New York City’s Integration Plan Isn’t yet a Citywide Approach

Mayor Bill de Blasio’s much-anticipated blueprint for integrating the nation’s most segregated public school system stops short of the citywide desegregation plan that advocates and experts have pushed for as school segregation has become the most potent education debate in New York City over the last year. “The DOE's effort is a more than a day late and a dollar short,” said David Bloomfield, a professor of education at CUNY’s Graduate Center and Brooklyn College. “What took so long to assemble a laundry list of aims with little immediate consequence?”
