Mourning the Loss of Lynette Gibson

Lynette Gibson who served in the theatre program as APO and who served in the University for more than 30 years passed away in the early hours of Thursday, November 22.
For all of us Lynette was an exceptional friend and colleague who served our program with professionalism and distinction. Lynette’s commitment to supporting students was at the very center of her work. With patience and wisdom, she waited to hear the outcome of every defense and we will miss her warm smile, joy, and a photograph for each of our students at their graduation.
In the office, Lynette was professional and supportive to everyone. Her office was one of humanity and service to the University’s mission. For the executive officers, Lynette was someone to rely on, someone who always knew the right person to speak to and who would give subtle reminders about deadlines. It was her concern for students that I trusted and relied upon with absolute confidence.
This year was a difficult one for Lynette. As she bravely dealt with illness she continued to give dedicated service. On behalf of the Ph.D. Program in Theatre and Performance, our faculty, students and alums, I extend our deepest sympathies to her family. We will all miss her and we thank her for her great contribution.
There will be a funeral service on December 1 at Caribe Funeral Home, 1922 Utica Avenue, Brooklyn 11234.  Viewing will be from 9 a.m. and the service will be at 11 a.m.  Directions can be found here
With thanks,
Peter Eckersall
