- Professor Andrea Alù Elected New President of METAMORPHOSE
Professor Andrea Alù (Physics), the Einstein Professor of Physics at The Graduate Center and the director of the Photonics Initiative at the Advanced Science Research Center, was elected president of METAMORPHOSE VI AISBL for a three-year period beginning this June.
METAMORPHOSE, also called The Virtual Institute for Artificial Electromagnetic Materials and Metamaterials, is a nonprofit international association focusing on the research and promotion of artificial electromagnetic materials and metamaterials.
“I am very honored and excited to be elected as the next president of the Metamorphose Institute,” says Alù. “I look forward to serving our broad metamaterials society in this role, and to expanding the boundaries of this institute that so far has been mostly centered in Europe.”
Alù, an engineer and photonics researcher, is known for his breakthroughs in metamaterials research, including his research on cloaking, or making objects transparent to incoming electromagnetic signals. He holds more than a dozen patents and patent applications and has coauthored more than 500 publications in the scientific literature.
