Welcome Pinar Ozgu
May 21, 2019
Dear Graduate Center colleagues,
It is my great pleasure to announce the appointment of Pinar Ozgu as The Graduate Center's new executive director of institutional equity and chief diversity officer. This is a newly established role, designed to ensure our compliance with federal and state laws and CUNY policies regarding discrimination, harassment, academic success, and diversity. Pinar brings impressive credentials to her new role, and I am confident that she will be a valued and trusted leader within our organization.
Most recently, she served as University director of investigations and chief of staff to CUNY's vice chancellor of the Office of Human Resources Management. Prior to that, she was the assistant corporation counsel in the Labor and Employment Department of the New York City Law Department. She has a J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law and earned M.A. and B.A. degrees at Middle East Technical University.
She will focus on implementing the University's policies relating to affirmative action and equal opportunity and ensuring that our institution complies with statutes such as Title VII, Title IX, Section 504, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. She will lead complaint investigations for The Graduate School and Macaulay Honors College.
Pinar will lead in delivering training related to campus civil rights, ethics/JCOPE compliance, workplace violence, and sexual misconduct, with the aims of raising awareness of these issues, promoting prevention and intervention, and sustaining a culture of inclusivity and equity. She will manage the Office of Compliance and Diversity and work collaboratively with colleagues at The Graduate Center, our affiliated schools, and CUNY Central Office.
Edith Rivera, who has served as our chief diversity officer, will be transitioning to a new role as compliance and reporting officer and will be focusing on compliance matters related to federal, state, and city statutes.
This is Pinar's first week with us. Please join me in welcoming her to our community.
