Reopening Status Update From the Office of Finance and Administration

Dear Graduate Center Community,
I would like to update the campus community on our planning for reopening. Today, Monday, June 22nd, begins Phase 2 of Governor’ Cuomo’s New York Forward ( reopening plan in New York City. Phase 2 business include commercial building management; hair salons and barber shops; restaurants and bars; offices; real estate services; in-store retail; vehicle sales; and retail rental, repair, and cleaning.
Education falls in Phase 4 of the Governor’s plan, the start date of which has not been established. The Graduate Center’s status is unchanged as Phase 2 of reopening New York City does not extend to schools.
Faculty, staff, and students who need to come to The Graduate Center’s building or to the Advanced Science Research Center must follow our current coronavirus procedures.

At the University level, the chancellor has established two task forces to address the reopening process. Information on CUNY’s planning can be found on CUNY’s coronavirus update and CUNY continuity for students websites.
The Graduate Center is taking steps to create campus-specific reopening recommendations. We are establishing a reopening task force that will be charged with making recommendations on campus reopening in the following areas: campus preparedness and safety; student learning, life, and success; staff relations and wellness; and communications. Membership to the reopening committee will be posted to our website.
My update today is not to answer the question of when we will return. Rather, I want to assure The Graduate Center community that we are actively discussing reopening plans. Of course, most of our planning will rely heavily on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the state, and CUNY.
We will continue to share news about The Graduate Center’s coronavirus response and will post the latest information to our coronavirus guidance and updates website.
