Irem Kilic earned her BA in Philosophy in Turkey and is a second year master student in the Women's and Gender Studies Program at the Graduate Center, CUNY with an interest in gendered violence, and child, early and forced marriage in Turkey. Her work “The Child Marriage Problem at the Bridge between East and West” has been accepted for presentation at the Sexual and Gendered Violence - 1st Global Conference in Vienna, Austria.

For our inaugural WGS MA Student Conversation Series, we were excited to have Prof. Bianca Williams speak with our students about her work and activism. Bianca Williams is a black feminist cultural anthropologist, and studies topics related to race, gender, and activism, including black feminist leadership and pedagogy, most recently in the Black Lives Matter movement. She is the author of the forthcoming book The Pursuit of Happiness: Black Women, Diasporic Dreams, and the Politics of Emotional Transnationalism (Duke University Press, 2018). She was previously an associate professor of cultural anthropology at the University of Colorado Boulder, where she received the 2016 American Anthropological Association and Oxford University Press Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching of Anthropology.
