Presidential Professor Miranda Fricker (Philosophy) received an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from the University of Kent in recognition of her “major contribution to research in moral and feminist philosophy and social epistemology,” the university said in a press release.
The honorary degree was awarded at Canterbury Cathedral in July. Other recipients included the author and poet Lemn Sissay and the artists Tacita Dean and Gary Hume.
Fricker’s work focuses on ethics, social epistemology, and feminist philosophy. She is currently a co-leader of a project at the University of Sheffield, where she is a research professor. She is the author or co-editor of several books and other publications, including The Epistemic Life of Groups: Essays in the Epistemology of Collectives. Fricker is also an associate editor of the Journal of the American Philosophical Association and a fellow of the British Academy.
