On Social Media, Everyone’s Rich and Famous

The Graduate Center, CUNY computer science professor Lev Manovich’s research looking at what photos posted to social media can tell us about human behavior recently focused on shared images of New York City, which he notes paint a picture of “faux affluence.” The vast majority of photos posted to Instagram by New Yorkers featured the wealthier parts of the city regardless of where the photographer actually lived.
