Cape Town Has a New Apartheid
Washington Post, 7.10.18
Opinion-editorial by Ashley Dawson, a climate activist and professor at The Graduate Center, CUNY. His latest book Extreme Cities: The Peril and Promise of Urban Life in the Age of Climate Change. Dawson argues that Cape Town where he was born, became the first major city in the world that looked like in 2017 through 2018 that is might run out of water. Distribution of water is uneven and the priority of accessing water has been extended to the wealthier areas of Cape Town – indeed, Dawson asserts that the crisis in Cape Town it is a product of water apartheid.
