“Carranza’s travel is unusual only because of the parochialism of many in the New York City educational establishment,” said The Graduate Center, CUNY education professor David Bloomfield. “It’s good that Carranza is exchanging ideas with others beyond the boroughs.” Bloomfield said Carranza may also have other motivations to leave the city. “It should also be remembered that he’s likely out of a job in three-and-a-half years, so it doesn’t hurt to maintain and extend his national connections,” Bloomfield said.
