Three GC Doctoral Students in Nursing Named Jonas Scholars
Three students in The Graduate Center’s Ph.D. program in Nursing were awarded grants of $20,000 each by Jonas Nursing and Veterans Healthcare, a philanthropy dedicated to building the effectiveness of professional nursing in the United States.
Giselle Gerardi, who focuses on preventive health, and Christine Gilchrist, who focuses on chronic health, were named 2018–2020 Jonas Scholars. Valicia Philibert was named a 2018–2020 Jonas Veterans Healthcare Scholar.
Each scholar receives two years of support, attends a leadership development conference, and works with a faculty mentor.
“My goal has always been to help our students identify sources of financial support,” said Professor Donna M. Nickitas, executive officer of the Ph.D. program in Nursing. “I am proud that our students continue to earn the investment of Barbara and Donald Jonas. We are grateful for their generous support through the years.”
Graduate Center students have been named Jonas Scholars since 2008, the year the initiative was launched. There are 200 scholars in the 2018–2020 cohort.
